Description

"3D Pens and Plastic Filament"

The Museum of Outdoor arts offers guests an intimate artwork demonstration featuring a MOA artist.

Artist Jodi Stuart will be demonstrating her unusual technique of using a “3D pen” and plastic filament to create intricate sculptures and wall relief works. Using the 3-D pen is a slow, tactile process, much like knitting or crochet. It involves melting plastic filament over a support such as a PVC pipe-fitting or metal bowl. The pen itself looks kind of like a mechanized hot-glue gun, it melts and extrudes the plastic filament which quickly hardens at room temperature. Participants will have the opportunity to handle sample works, feel the lightness of the material, and the texture of the filament; as well as take turns trying out the 3D pen to get a feel for the process.
